Poster Analysis: Friday the 13th
- The key image is set in the woods with the villain in the centre of the poster. The camera angle is slightly low so that the villain is emphasised as a high authority and intimidating to us. The fog and crowded trees around him communicates the stereotypical view of a horror film. The fact that you cannot see his face completely because he is standing away from the light gives us the impression that no one knows who he is, and that mask that he wears again hides his identity, cutting off any relation we might have to him, and any emotion we could have been able to see.
-The title is placed at the bottom of the poster in red lettering, this relates to the ideas of red being a sign of danger and blood. The word “Friday” and the letter “13th” is put in bold so that it is emphasised to us, giving us the impression that this day and date is important to the film.
-The tagline is placed at the top “welcome tocrystal lake ” allowing us to connect this man to an isolated place in the woods. The fact that this man is stood in front of water also allows us to connect the tagline and the key image together and give us the impression that coming to this lake will introduce you to this man.
-The credit block and the studio and distributors logos are placed at the bottom of the film poster.

Poster Analysis:
- Key image is the villain with his face covered by a large hat. This allows us to see just enough of his body but not his total face so we are still intrigued.
We are shown a burnt man and just one knife on his hand sticking out again allowing us to still be intrigued. The knife also has a glimmer of light shining off it to give us the impression that it is sharp, Also so that some people can recognise him from the previous films.
- The title is below him in red which is a well down symbolization of blood and danger. The colour also matches the colour of the jumper on the villain allowing us to see the connection between them. He is dangerous. The words “Nightmare” and “Elm Street ” are bigger then the other words allowing us to see them first and get a sense of this film, where the horror will come from and where it is set.
-The tagline is “Welcome to your new nightmare” this communicates the idea that this is a nightmare no one has ever experienced before and that perhaps you cannot escape it.
-The credit block is again at the bottom of the poster as well as the Studio and distributors logos.
-The release date is at the very bottom again in red and bold font to enhance this idea of danger and to also grab the reader’s attention.

Devil Poster and film reviews
- The Tagline lets us put together the idea of the Devil and being possessed if someone travelling in an elevator is not what they seem. Also playing on the fear of Claustrophobia, being trapped in an elevator with five people around you.
- The key image is the elevator doors slightly open with just enough gap to show an upside down cross. When we normally see a cross sign we are instinctively relate it to religion, god and Jesus, however because this cross is upside down it could be representing the opposite to God which would be the Devil. Also the 6 at the top of the elevator representing the level they are on, also symbolizes the Devils and his number, “666”.
-The Title is placed at the bottom of the poster which could relate to the Devil being beneath us, also the tip of the cross is in between the ”V” in the word Devil almost giving us the impression that the red flames are coming from the Devil.
-The Credit block is traditionally placed at the bottom of the poster.
-The Studio and distributors logos are again traditionally at the bottom of the poster.
